Effective 1 October 2010, the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum will be temporarily closed while relocating to a new facility. The museum will reopen fall 2011. During this the time, the museum staff will not be available to respond to phone calls and will have limited email access. All correspondence, including requests for historical information, will be held and answered in order of receipt when normal operations resume in fall 2011.
Although the Grand Opening of the new museum is not scheduled until fall 2011, the new facility will be open the first and third Tuesday and first Saturday of every month from 10AM to 2PM. These open house opportunities will provide visitors a "sneak peek" of the new museum while the collections are relocated from the old facility and state-of-the-art exhibits are installed. The public is welcome and reservations are not required.
The mission of the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum is to select, collect, preserve and display historic material relating to the history of the Naval Construction Force, better known as the SEABEES, and the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps.
The second oldest of the official Navy museums, the Seabee Museum was established in 1947 in Port Hueneme, California, which today is part of Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC).
