The mission of the San Diego Model Railroad Museum is to preserve the heritage of railroading through a series of miniature representations of California railroads, research and preserve the history of model railroading, and educate the public in the many different aspects of railroading.
At 27,000 sq. ft., the museum is one the largest indoor model railroad displays in the world and the only accredited railroad themed musuem in USA.
The individual HO and N scale layouts are among largest of their type. Construction of the model railroads is accomplished by volunteer club members (approximately. 320). Each club is responsible for the design, construction, funding, and operation of its exhibit.
Since its opening to the public in March of 1982, the museum is now approaching 3 million visitors.

From a small one-hangar beginning, the San Diego Air & Space Museum's annex at Gillespie Field has grown to become an integral part of the Museum's aircraft restoration and replica reproduction program. Staffed mainly by volunteers, the Facility has produced some of SDASM's finest work.
Of local significance, a Convair F-102A Delta Dagger recently completed restoration at the Annex. This aircraft was built in San Diego at Convair's Lindbergh Field plant in the mid-1950s. Many of the volunteers who participated in preservation efforts actually worked on the F-102 while employed by Convair/General Dynamics.

Mint condition aircraft in a mint condition museum - a Spitfire Mk. XVI, a Navy F6F Hellcat and an A-4 Skyhawk jet - these beautifully restored airplanes help you appreciate the increasingly complex technology represented in the classic military aircraft of World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
The Museum's display of space age technology, like the desire to journey to the stars, may never be finished, for it represents an adventure which the human race has truly just begun.
The Dual-Seater is ready to duel! The FS2000 Two-Seat Flight Simulator is part of an all-new, sleek squadron of indoor full-motion multi-role aircraft rides. Each is poised for the sharp banks, sky loops and screaming dives of pulse-pounding aerial combat and is completely controlled by the pilots themselves! The 360-degree pitch, roll, spin and spiral action is real while riders fly any one of Max-Flight's combat and flight training programs on a huge 58" screen in the cockpit.
The 3D/4D Zable Theater uses advanced 3D technologies but takes it to the next level of experience; employing interactive seats and unique special effects built into the theater itself. By creating a set of "4D" effects synchronized to the film production, the 3D/4D Zable Theater adds another layer of immersive and experiential fun for audiences of all ages.

The Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) is devoted to collecting, conserving and exhibiting the entire spectrum of the photographic medium. The Museum’s endeavors consistently address cultural, historical and social issues through its exhibitions and public programs.
The museum’s permanent collection offers a rich photographic heritage, both as an expressive medium and a documentary record. The collection’s 9,000 images include works by Margaret Bourke-White, Alfred Stieglitz, and Ruth Bernhard among 850 other photographers, and a wealth of representative examples of different photographic styles, genres and techniques, from early 19th century daguerreotypes and albumen prints to pictorialism, cutting-edge documentary and photojournalism, and digitally constructed imagery. While the entire collection illustrates the complex and varied history of the medium, in terms of subject matter and genres, MoPA's collection is particularly strong in mid-twentieth century Soviet Russian photography, and social documentary photography and photojournalism.
The Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego mounts eight to ten major exhibitions per year that represent the history of the medium, contemporary works, photojournalism, and varied photographic processes.
The museum also has a classroom, print-viewing room, and a 20,000-volume library, as well as archival facilities and support areas, and a 226 seat state-of-the-art theater, that fulfills the museum's mandate of presenting the arts of still photography, video and film.

The historic mission building of the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum located at 404 Third Avenue is temporarily closed while undergoing renovation. The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Extension building located at 328 J Street will remain open to visitors and will observe regular operating hours.
The mission of SDCHM is to collect, preserve and share the Chinese American experience and Chinese history, culture and art to educate our diverse community and its visitors.
Since opening in 1996, the museum has presented more than 47 exhibits highlighting the rich tradition of Chinese culture and history in San Diego and the world. The Museum also features a library of books on Chinese culture and a tranquil garden with koi pond.
The garden begins with a magnificent gate memorializing Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, followed by a small waterfall and a quiet stream, which culminates in a fishpond. A serpentine stone path leads to the courtyard and is adorned by a bronze statue of Confucius.
The permanent collection includes paintings, sculpture, Chinatown artifacts, calligraphy, costumes, and religious items. Special exhibitions and presentations are scheduled throughout the year.
They also offer the Asian Pacific Historic Walking Tour every second Saturday of the month at 11am. Cost: $4, includes museum admission.

Located on 55 acres of rolling farm ground, the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum collects, preserves and displays examples of mechanical ingenuity and crafts associated with the early days of the American farm and rural community.
The Museum's collections focus on the 1849 through the early 1960’s era with exhibits that actively demonstrate farm equipment and tools from horse drawn through modern row crop.
Unique from traditional Museum, the collection is maintained in operating condition and used during a wide range of events held here on the grounds. Volunteers operate equipment to help maintain and repair the property and collections.
The Museum is operated as a semi-static museum most days, they do have active demonstrations throughout the week. The Weaving exhibit is open every Thursday for demonstration and teaching. Blacksmithing is taught and demonstrated every Saturday from beginning through advance classes and our N' Scale Model Railroad building is open every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
The Museum offers educational and recreational opportunities to the public through exhibits, demonstrations, activities and programs displaying the art of invention fulfilling necessity. Acknowledging the past provides direction for the future.

The museum holds the only exhibit in the United States devoted to the history of the Woman Marine, including original uniforms, history timeline and memorabilia.
The museum also displays the permanent trophies and the current year recipients of twenty five individual and unit awards, selected by the Commandant of the Marine Corps for excellence in their occupational speciality.

The La Mesa Depot Museum is La Mesa, California's oldest building in its original form and is the sole surviving San Diego and Cuyamaca Railway Station in existence.
Visitors can inspect the steam locomotive and string of freight cars on the nearby track and pass through the ticket/waiting area and view the telegrapher's station and a small exhibit area in the baggage room. This building and its past are a fascinating look at a bit of small-town railroading from yesteryear and its importance to the community it served.
Conveniently located across the street from the La Mesa Blvd trolley stop - come on out and enjoy an hour at this old-time station in downtown La Mesa.

The Museum's mission is to provide an educational setting that portrays the legacy of the Marine Corps for the training of recruits and the continuing education of Marines, that functions as a supporting arm to the recruiting effort, and that serves as a bridge to the civilian community.
The MCRD Command Museum boasts one of the most extensive and comprehensive displays of Marine Corps historical items in the Nation.The Museum has over 150,000 annual visitors and occupies 22,233 square feet of indoor space.
