Planning is underway for the reconstruction of the education/research center destroyed in the 1993 Malibu/Topanga fire.
The Stunt Ranch Santa Monica Mountains Reserve is a 310-acre biological field station located four miles inland on the north central flank of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is one of 36 ecological reserves operated by the University of California Natural Reserve System (NRS), and is the only reserve managed by UCLA .The NRS network of reserves spread across all parts of California provides venues for world-class research and education in the environmental sciences, and is a unique resource unparalleled anywhere else in the world.
The Stunt Ranch Reserve, named for the original family that homesteaded the property in 1885, comprises 310 acres of relatively pristine chaparral, live oak woodland, and riparian habitat in the Cold Creek watershed on the north-central flank of the Santa Monica Mountains, between Malibu and Calabasas. The reserve is also an archeological site with rich evidence of Chumash inhabitants dating back thousands of years.
The Reserve is not open to the public for recreational uses: These include hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, picnicking, or rock climbing.
The exception is the Stunt High Trail which runs alongside and through some portions of the Reserve.

Cabot's Pueblo Museum is a Hopi inspired Pueblo that is a unique treasure to the Coachella Valley, located in the heart of Desert Hot Springs.
Built by Cabot Yerxa (b. 1883) on property he homesteaded in 1913, he worked on the property until his death in 1965. Cabot journeyed through the desert; gathering reclaimed materials for 10 years; from as far east as the Salton Sea, north to Morongo Valley, south to Palm Springs and west to White Water.
The structure is hand made, created from reclaimed and found objects. The Pueblo is four-stories, 5,000 square feet and includes 35 rooms, 150 windows and 65 doors. Visitors will notice many unique features: including windows and doors collected and reassembled from abandoned homesteads, old telephone poles, buck board wagon parts and many other materials used creatively.
On the guided tour, visitors journey through the life of Cabot Yerxa and his family including artifacts collected from their adventures dating back over 100 years. Hear his story from the Dakota Territory to Mexico, Cuba, Alaska, France, throughout California and the Southwest, including the founding of Desert Hot Springs, California. Tour is approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Tours may need to be canceled due to inclement weather: please call to confirm. The museum tour may not be accessible to certain people with handicaps or medical conditions – please call with questions.

The collection’s 9,000 images include works by Margaret Bourke-White, Alfred Stieglitz, and Ruth Bernhard among 850 other photographers, and a wealth of representative examples of different photographic styles, genres and techniques, from early 19th century daguerreotypes and albumen prints to pictorialism, cutting-edge documentary and photojournalism, and digitally constructed imagery. While the entire collection illustrates the complex and varied history of the medium, in terms of subject matter and genres, MoPA's collection is particularly strong in mid-twentieth century Soviet Russian photography, and social documentary photography and photojournalism.
The Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego mounts eight to ten major exhibitions per year that represent the history of the medium, contemporary works, photojournalism, and varied photographic processes.
The museum also has a classroom, print-viewing room, and a 20,000-volume library, as well as archival facilities and support areas, and a 226 seat state-of-the-art theater, that fulfills the museum's mandate of presenting the arts of still photography, video and film.

Relax and enjoy the narration that emphasizes the history and plants that make up the beauty of Descanso. Tram $4. Depending on demand, tram tours are 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 11 a.m., 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Please check with the Visitor Center to see if tram tours are available the day of your visit. The tram does not operate on Mondays.
A major highlight for the young (and young-at-heart) visitor is the Descanso Gardens Enchanted Railroad. Guests can climb aboard this 1/8th replica of a diesel train and travel around a small section of Descanso Gardens. Enchanted Railroad $3 per rider, $25 for a book of 10 tickets; the Enchanted Railroad is open 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Closed from 12:30 to 1 p.m. for lunch. Tickets are sold in the Visitor Center. All schedules are subject to weather and availability; please call ahead to see if the train is running at (818) 949-4290.
The Full Moon Tea House area is one of the most impressive architectural structures at Descanso Gardens. Inspired by the Asian origins of Descanso's camellias, the Japanese Garden, Full Moon Tea House and Minka bring the spirit of the Far East to California.
Just beyond the Rose Garden, the Bird Observation Station and Lake provide permanent and temporary shelter and nesting area for a wide variety of birds.
Formerly the home of E. Manchester Boddy, founder of Descanso Gardens, the Boddy House offers a glimpse at the glamour of a bygone era. The Boddy House is open to touring 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The Sturt Haaga Gallery of Art opens May 2011. The Gallery will have changing exhibitions of art open to the Descanso visiting public and membership and included with Garden admission. Exhibitions will include group shows, individual shows, and curated thematic shows that seek to broaden public awareness of, and appreciation for, the intersection between art and nature.
The Descanso Café, located near the Gardens entrance, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Café, operated by the Patina Group, provides sandwiches and luncheon specials with outdoor seating.

The eight historic structures located at the museum, constructed during the Victorian Era, were saved from demolition and serve as a perfect background to educate the public about Southern California's early development. From the simplicity of the Octagon House to the opulence of the Perry Mansion, the Museum provides a unique look at the lifestyles of the people who contributed so much to the development of modern Los Angeles.
Guided tours of most of the structures depart hourly (12 to 3 p.m.*) from the Palms Depot. No admittance after the final tour has departed.
Guided tours of the museum are supplemented by special events, such as Museums of the Arroyo Day®, which take our guests back in time to the era where electricity was a novelty, a trip to the beach was often a full-weekend activity, and manners were distinctly different from those of today.
